WORK EXPERIENCE
  1. 1985-1986 Nurse's Aid/Certified Nurse's Aid: This job required personable skills, communication, and the ability to learn. I became certified the first available day I was eligible to be tested. People relied on me to remember their specific needs and I cheerfully paid attention to detail, regiment, and following orders.
  2. 1986-1987 Food Service: Following the restaurant's policy and satisfying customers was a balance I achieved early in this business. I learned about mass production and quality control. I also mastered the technique and beauty of creating the perfect sandwich, yogurt sundae, or pizza.
  3. 1987-1988 Receptionist/Switchboard Operator: Experience with corporate America at The American Re-Insurance Company in Princeton taught me the etiquette of professional interactions. I was able to blend with the company's image and handle businesspeople accordingly. I became well acquainted with fast-paced, personal service during rushes of high-pressure business dealings.
  4. 1988-1989 Tie Dye Artisan: This job required a combination of skills. The skill securing the job was proficiency at the process of "fine art" tie-dying fabric. The skills I showed in fabric art were honed through learning the skills of mass producing the garments and tapestries. Being paid by the piece and working hours alone, I learned the responsibility of consistency and results. Keeping my own schedule I required dedication.
  5. 1989-1999 Clothing Business Owner: This job required sales, production, and administration. I was responsible for the money being there for a product I could enhance and sell. I handled customers well and was known for reliability and a consistently good product I created. Budgeting, marketing, designing, and producing were constantly rotating jobs. I was able to hold accounts because I'm a well organized, assertive businessperson and knew I had a beautiful product I created with attention to detail.
  6. 1995-1998 Floral Design: This job displayed creative skills, punctuality, and working with a team. I was responsible for handling customers, computer sales, and every floral design requested or suggested.
  7. 2004-2009 Independent Childcare/Housekeeping: This position has required reliability, flexibility a personable character, and patience. Maturity and dedication has kept clients interested in using me for tutoring, speech therapy, childcare, party help, and housekeeping. As tasks are necessary, the flexibility to change roles, then get back on an agenda, is expected.
  8. 2008-2009 Computer Lab Assistant: This job requires punctuality, responsibility, and teaching. Assisting in five programs is challenging and rewarding. Working with students exhibits the skills needed for communication. Patience and listening while assisting is essential in teaching.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE

2005-2009 Phi Theta Kappa: The four trademarks of PTK are leadership, scholarship, fellowship, and service. Volunteering for bake sales and college events are good opportunities to meet people with similar interests to network with.

2005-2009 Sunday School Teacher: Teaching a variety of classes; puppetry workshop, computer lab, arts/crafts, and food fun, shows adaptability and motivation. Studying, and reaching a group of children requires devotion. Willingness to learn is necessary.

2007-2009 Board of Christian Education: Responsibilities such as decision-making at meetings, and creative solutions is expected. Being in charge of the nursery for the first year was a challenging responsibility. I scheduled attendants and personally cleaned, plus kept the facilities well stocked with supplies for infants and toddlers. My consistent attendance at church gave me the ability to work in the nursery when needed. Being an artist has made me an asset to the Board, the only one willing to gladly change and create one masterpiece after another on the Sunday School Bulletin Board.

2007-2008 Mission Work: Devotion, fellowship, manual labor, and study were requirements. Travel and six days devoted to experiencing ministry, worship, and working procures discipline. Respect and an open heart and mind were crucial in fellowship with people in need, who I had the honor of helping.

2008-2009 Volunteer Gallery Sitting: Conversing with artists, assisting the curator during juroring, and viewing art enhanced my knowledge of contemporary exhibits. Mingling with people active in the art community inspires and motivates me to follow my passion, visual communication.

  1. Hi, Charlotte - Sounds like our backgrounds are similar in that we've both done many different things for many years but are finally trying to follow our bliss. Best of luck!
